European Leaders Mull Strategic Autonomy

Four years ago, newly-elected French President Emmanuel Macron called for Europe to build “the capacity to act autonomously” in security matters so that the continent would be less dependent on the United States. Now, in the wake of the U.S.-led withdrawal from Afghanistan, EU leaders are saying it’s time to make “the European Union a strategic player to be reckoned with.
