Pope Francis: Stop march of Islamic State

Pope Francis today appeared to back Western action against Islamic State jihadis, saying that the international community would be justified in trying to stop religious fundamentalists in the Middle East.

 
Speaking to reporters aboard his plane on the way back from his South Korea visit, the pontiff laid out his case for a ‘just war’ in Iraq.

 
Asked if he approved of US airstrikes against Islamic State insurgents, he said: “In these cases, where there is an unjust aggression I can only say that it is legitimate to stop the unjust aggressor.”
