Erdogan says Turkey has proof Russian Federation involved in IS oil trade

Russian Federation has already banned some Turkish food imports in retaliation as part of a sanctions package, and has accused Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan and his family of benefiting from the smuggling of oil from Islamic State controlled territory in Syria and Iraq, allegations Turkey denies. That jet was shot down by Turkey after they claimed it crossed into Turkish airspace. The shoot-down, the first time a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation country downed a Russian plane in more than half a century, has triggered a bitter spat between the two nations, which had developed robust economic ties in the past.

Neither Putin nor Turkish President Recep Erdogan, both strongman autocratic leaders, have been willing to blink in the confrontation, and Erdogan has refused Putin’s demands to apologize. “And they won’t acknowledge anything even if their faces are smeared with the stolen oil”.

 

“The irony of the Russians raising this concern is that there’s plenty of evidence to indicate that the largest consumer of ISIL oil is actually Bashar al-Assad and his regime, a regime that only remains in place because it is being propped up by the Russians”, said Josh Earnest.

 

They say the satellite pictures reveal there are no inspections carried out on the vehicles.

 

But President Erdogan said no one had the right to “slander” Turkey with the serious accusations and said he would stand down if it was proved true.

Following Monday’s meeting with President Barack Obama on the sidelines of a climate summit in Paris, Putin said they have a shared understanding on how to move toward a political settlement in Syria and discussed efforts to compile a list of extremist groups and another one of members of legitimate political opposition.
