Who Wins Germany’s Election Next Month?

Germany’s upcoming federal election is scheduled for September 26th.

Unlike the USA’s system with one-person one-vote, Germans have two votes. One vote goes to the candidate in a local electorate and the second vote goes towards proportional representation. As a consequence, Germany is not defined by two parties. Instead, several parties seek to govern after an election. Angela Merkel is ending her reign and will move into retirement.
