Russia has scrapped a significant treaty that restricted the deployment of conventional forces by Moscow and NATO in Europe, marking a level of tension not witnessed since the Cold War era. After announcing its intention to exit the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE) earlier this year, Russia officially withdrew from the agreement recently. Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared the treaty obsolete, stating that it no longer aligned with Moscow’s interests. The ministry also accused NATO of bypassing the restrictions through the expansion of the US-led alliance.
