‘Godfather’ of AI Image Generation Tech Warns of the Dangers

A man credited with being one of the “Godfathers of AI” has resigned from his position at Google and given an interview where he expresses regret over his life’s work.

Geoffrey Hinton, 75, has spent his life working on neural networks, a mathematical system that has led to generative artificial intelligence (AI) models such as text-to-image generators like Midjourney and language apps like ChatGPT.

“I console myself with the normal excuse: If I hadn’t done it, somebody else would have,” Dr. Hinton tells The New York Times in an interview published today.
