Documents show the WHO paid sexual abuse victims in Congo $250 each

Earlier this year, the head physician spearheading the World Health Organization’s initiatives to prevent sexual abuse journeyed to Congo to confront the most extensive recorded sex scandal in the U.N. health agency’s history. This involved the exploitation of well over 100 local women by staffers and other individuals during a fatal Ebola outbreak.

As per an internal WHO report detailing Dr. Gaya Gamhewage’s visit in March, one of the affected women she encountered had given birth to a child with “a malformation that demanded specific medical attention.” This added further financial burdens for the young mother in a nation ranked among the world’s most impoverished countries.
