Bleak Scenarios
A recent Fox News article proposes several scenarios for a type of End of the World final conflagration. According to the article, “Welcome to the Apocalypse,” the end of the world will be painful, ugly and bleak for those on Earth in most of the depictions. For example, one scientist speculates “that the seas could turn to sulfur and decrease the overall levels of oxygen, poisoning us all.”
Apocalypse or Revelation
When people search the Internet for such terms as “Apocalypse,” “Revelations,” or “Book of Revelation,” what they probably have in mind is a more scriptural or biblical result than the scientists’ forecasts. To be more precise, the word “Apocalypse” actually means, “lifting of the veil” or “revelation.” Many use the term “Apocalypse” in the context of the end of the world. This common usage could be a result of the historical use of the title “Apocalypse of John” for the last book of the New Testament, the Book of Revelation, which does indeed depict the destruction of the last human governments on earth.
Understanding The Apocalypse of John
The Book of Revelation, or The Apocalypse of John, is full of visions and symbols that seem too daunting for many to even attempt to understand. In reality, Revelation is far less figurative and far more applicable and practical to us than many believe it to be.
The Book of Revelation is divided into three parts:
- “the things which thou hast seen” – events of chapter 1.
- “the things which are” – the seven churches that existed at that time and to which John wrote in chapters 2 and 3.
- “the things which shall be hereafter” – events from chapter 4 until the end of chapter 22.
The Book of Revelation is in order, but is not in chronological order:
From chapter 4 to chapter 22, the Book of Revelation loops back to a previous point in time (not all the way to the beginning nor to the beginning of the previous loop) and begins to re-tell a story with more details provided in each re-telling. The Seven Seals tell the long story (from just after Jesus’ time on earth) and ends at Armageddon. (Revelation 6) The Seven Trumpets tell the shorter story (from WWI) and end at the Battle of Armageddon. (Revelation 11) The Seven Vials tell the really short story, beginning at or just prior to the Battle of Armageddon, and end at the conclusion of the Battle of Armageddon. (Revelation 16) If you study the Sixth Seal, the Seventh Trumpet and the Seventh Vial side-by-side, you will see that these all describe the same event, the Day of the Lord or the Day of Christ.
The Seals, the Trumpets, the Thunders, the Vials
The Seven Seals:
The first four seals are four horses. We see the same four horses in Zechariah 6 where we are given additional information about each. We are told that these are four spirits. (Zechariah 6:5)
- The White Horse – the spirit of Catholicism. The Pope has white robes, a white car, a white pope mobile, a white helicopter, and a white airplane.
- The Red Horse – the spirit of communism. The recognized color of Communism is red; red Russia, red China. The rider of this horse has a great sword. Russia and China are mighty military powers.
- The Black Horse – the spirit of capitalism. The recognized color of capitalism is black. The black horse goes into the north country (Zech 6:6). Almost all capitalist countries are in the northern hemisphere.
- The Pale (chloros or green) Horse – the spirit of Islam. Death and Hell followed. The recognized color of Islam is green. The pale horse is given power over one-fourth of the earth. One-fourth of the world’s population is Muslim. Islam clearly promotes a culture of death.
- We believe the souls under the altar begin the Great Tribulation spoken of by Jesus in Matthew 24.
- The Day of the Lord
- Armageddon. Concurrent with the Seventh Trumpet and Seventh Vial. Silence in Heaven.
The Seven Trumpets:
The First Trumpet – World War I
- No previous wars occurred with one million deaths.
- The first war fought with airplanes; hence hail and fire mingled with blood as bombs fell.
- The “scorched earth policy” was employed – burned all green grass as armies retreated.
The Second Trumpet – World War II
- Fifty-two million deaths.
- Approximately 105,000 ships participated in WWII; approximately 36,000 of them were sunk – one-third (as prophesied).
- The first employment of a nuclear bomb would look exactly like a mountain burning with fire.
The Third Trumpet – The Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster in April 1986
- The Ukrainian word Chernobyl means wormwood.
The Fourth Trumpet – Shortening of the Days
- Jesus spoke of the shortening of the days in Matthew 24:22
The Fifth Trumpet – The Gulf War
- 1991 – The First Woe.
The Sixth Trumpet – World War III
- The Second Woe.
The Seventh Trumpet – Armageddon
- The Third Woe.
- The same as Sixth Seal and Seventh Vial.
- This Seventh Trumpet is the last trump (I Corinthians 15:52) – the gathering of the saints.
The Seven Thunders
We don’t know. God told John not to write these things.
The Seven Vials
Vial 1 – A noisesome and grievous sore.
Vial 2 – The sea becomes blood.
Vial 3 – Rivers and fountains become blood.
Vial 4 – The sun scorches men.
Vial 5 – Darkness and pain.
Vial 6 – Euphrates river dries up to make way for kings of the East to invade Israel.
Vial 7 – The Day of the Lord. Same as the Sixth Seal and Seventh Trumpet. The end of man’s government on earth and beginning of the government of Jesus on earth.
Two other significant events in Revelation are the Mark of the Beast and the rapture.
I believe in post-trib , and always have because that is what my pastor at my church teaches. So I’m confused about those who believe there is a pre-trib. How do they think that they won’t encounter the horrid seasons. If there is a pre-trib then what would be the point of the mark of the beast?
Irvin, I used to listen to your program everyday and really appreciate your interpretation of the Book of Revelation, and your understanding of the Bible. I can’t say that I disagree with your interpretations, although, I’ve considered the Pale horse, if it is indeed green, to be the spirit of the almighty dollar. I’d like to know your thoughts on that. I know the Islamic argument is compelling, but such a small portion of their belief system is of a dangerous or a violent nature (the radical element), I’m just not so sure their ‘spirit’ qualifies as the Pale Horse. Money, and the spirit thereof however, has been killed for in a much larger capacity and probably since it’s creation. It just so happens that now, it’s green. I believe N. Korea to be a larger threat than the radical Islamist’s. Your thoughts are appreciated and may GOD Bless You!

Okay, so one-third of the world’s population is to be wiped out, right? (Please, before you immediately dismiss the idea, read through what I have to say.) Most teenagers nowdays keep talking about a “zombie apocalypse.” Well, what if, instead of America’s nuclear weapons wiping out that one-third of the world’s population, it were zombies. Someone in my class said that the zombie apocalyse isn’t going to happen, and I agreed with him at first. But… then my teacher said “But the bible says ‘the dead will rise’”. That statement surprised me; I got curious and looked it up. I found a website that liste some verses, but two of them caught my attention. The first is Zachariah 14:12, “And the LORD will send a plague on all the nations that fought against Jerusalem. Their people will become like rotting corpses, their flesh rotting away. Their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongues will rot in their mouth.” Whoa. Rotting corpses? If what was just described there isn’t a zombie, then I don’t know what is. And the second verse is Revelations 11:11, “But after three and a half days a breath of life from God entered them, and they stood on their feet, and terror struck those who saw them.” Zombies would be scary, wouldn’t they?

Thank you for sharing your idea but Biblically this will not be the case. Zechariah refers to the Battle of Armageddon which happens after the war killing one third of mankind. What you quoted is what will happen to the people during this time. It is describing a death. Revelation 11 is referring to the two witnesses. After they rise again they will be caught up to meet the Lord in the air. So I do not believe the idea of a zombie apocalypse is possible.

There are other things that must happen before the coming of the Lord. However even if it was 10 years away that is relatively soon. We have a lot of work ahead of us and now is the time to do it.

I did not read all the way to the bottom, so I don’t know if this question has been asked. But, what vial are we at right now? I read a lot of people being scared. God doesn’t want us to be scared. He wants us to be ready. Now if you don’t have the Holy Spirit. Then you better get it. And all you have to do is ask. And you will receive. That is what will quicken our mortal bodies and get us out of here. Read his word daily and stay in his house and stay with his people. May God Bless us all.
None of the vials have happened yet. All of these will occur at the end if the tribulation. The vials are the wrath of God.
For all the pre tribs out there this is not biblically correct since even jesus warns the believers of what is to come in Revelation. Why would he warn a church that is already gone it doesnt make any sense because that is not what he said. We have to be ready at any moment and that the church will have to face some hard times ahead so be prepared. The Fifth Trumpet – The Gulf War?

I’m going to have to agree, the speculation byET is high on spectacular and low on analysis.
I have completed two detailed studies of Revelation. The wonder of what I gleaned from my studies is that God NEVER gives up on Mankind, He pursues us all the way to Armageddon. Consider His sending out of the 144,000 Jewish Evangelists; the two Witnesses declaring the Gospel day and night; and the two angels flying over the earth declaring God’s Word. All I see is a Loving God giving us every chance to repent and turn to Him to be saved. I am a pre-Tribulation believer because God uses the Tribulation to shake up and wake up a World indifferent to the reality of Jesus as Saviour. See Revelation Chapter 2 verse 1. When the Church age ends ‘a door is opened in Heaven and God says …come up here!’ Trust in His Love and Care of you and be not afraid. He has had it all worked out since before the beginning of time. I always tell myself Jesus didn’t die on that cross to lose! He Won!!! God keep you safe in the palm of His hands.
There is an abundance of speculation and conjecture on both this site and thread. I hope these “opinions” are being sold as such – because that is all they are. No one has had the book of Revelation “opened” to them – that I have heard. I believe if this ministry felt the end were truly near… they would push this message with every cent that came in. In stead, we must subscribe and buy your merchandise.
The Bible says that a man is worthy of his hire. If we have “hired” this site and ministry, it is only right that it be supported!
What about abortion?
The Bible tells us that the words were closed and sealed until the time of the end. We believe that the time of the end is here because of what we see in the scriptures. The trumpets being fulfilled, Israel has become a nation, the Holy Roman Empire was reborn. All of these events point us to the nearing second coming of Jesus. And we are pushing this ministry out there with every cent. We have free daily broadcasts, weekly television broadcasts, free brochures for downloading that cover a wide array of topics. Yes there are plenty of free materials. But,in order to keep this ministry afloat we have to make some materials worth something. God bless.
I would like to point out that there were indeed wars before WWI that resulted in over 1,000,000 deaths. Just pointing out a fact.
It also says in the bible that before the end of time all will wear the mark of the beast. We are a divided world and do not share any mark, currency, religion, currency, gov’t, or anything thing else. We have alot of time yet. The 5th trumpet cannot be the Gulf war. The sealing of GOD’S servants took place @ d time of the 6th seal, if the 6th seal is the day of the Lord and d 5th trump. Is Gulf war how do you reconcile 1. d command at d 5th trump to hurt only unsealed pple. 2. That d 5th trump has taken place while the sealing @ d 6th seal which also comprise the day of the Lord is future?
The times that are gathering forth
are of consequence to one and all.
There are many Old Testament and New Testament passages concerning the times of the end. Keep in mind, the times of the end are not the end of the earth, rather the end of life as most mankind knows it. I am sure Mr. Baxter would agree that each should seek this knowledge under the leadership of a learned individual, but seek it none the less. We, as part of the human race are about to see many prophecies fulfilled over the next few years. Those years will arrive quickly. Please prepare yourself spiritually. Then prepare as many others as you can. Pass on your knowledge to those who seek it. Finally, be ready for the great rapture, regardless of the form or time that it may occur in. The term “rapture” does not appear any where in the Bible. Ther is a referance only to a gathering together of the saints made in the Gosples by Jesus, and if His words are cross referanced to those of John in Revelation you will clearly see that it is not the “greate escape” most think it is. It does not happen until closer to the end of all things. One of God’s promises to His people is that they will not experience his wrath, which just so happens to be the seven bowles mentioned in Revelation.
In the Latin Vulgate which was written in the 1600s is the same as our Bible. It is just written in Latin. The Latin Vulgate uses the term rapiemur which translated means rapture. The phrase come up hither literally means a gathering in the clouds or rapture.
Who knows how doomsday will come only the Saviour knows all people should pray and glorify His name to eternity.

Steven, it is okay. You will be okay. For years upon years this type of hysteria has happened. We can not control what happens outside of us so live your life, look towards your future, and what ever happens is going to happen. So far we are all here. This same hysteria happened back in the 60′s, and yes as a little girl I was so scared. 2000, the world was supposed to be destroyed, and here we are in 2012-almost 2013. No man will know when Jesus will come back to redeem his people as it says that in the Bible. He gave us signs to look for when the end of times happens, but Steven, the signs have been happening at least as long as I can remember and I am 53 years old. Relax, do not read any upsetting hysteria predictions since there is nothing we can do about it anyway. Have a great time in life and leave everything else to God.
When I saw the description of the four horsemen, it was like a breath of fresh air. It made so much more sense than the other explanations I have read. I had already come to some similar conclusions about the green spirit when I saw the video. On the other hand, the timing doesn’t work since capitalism became a force in the mid nineteenth century and communism didn’t take power until the early twentieth. But if you look deeper, you will see that the red spirit we now call socialism and communism didn’t begin in 1917 or even 1871. It actually started in the reign of terror under citizens Robespierre and Saint-Just. Under the ideals of liberty, equality, and fraternity, they executed tens of thousands. I see this as the true beginning of the red spirit.
I don’t agree with all of his conclusions, in particular the focus on western europe and the “rebirth of the holy roman empire”, but I see this as normal. I don’t believe any person alive on earth today sees the whole picture. Just as two thousand years ago, the people looking for the messiah didn’t understand when he came, otherwise they would not have crucified the lord of glory. Today we do not see and understand all that is happening or the enemy would also understand and would refuse to play his assigned role. Even so, God’s people are starting to see enough that we will know what to do when things get really rough. Come quickly lord Yeshua.

Scoti, there is no reason to be scared, but I understand how it feels to realize one of these days the earth will be no more. One thing about it, in the Bible is says no man will know when the time will come when Jesus comes back to redeem his people. Another issue is when I was a small child back in the mid-60′s, the same hysteria was happening back then. We knew the earth was going to go away. I was scared, just like you. There is a doomsday clock and back in the 60′s the clock almost struck 12 which that led into the end of time. Of course at that time, nuclear bomb threats were unnerving and people were building fall-out shelters. In schools we had exercise how we were supposed to be if there was a nuclear fall out. The exercise is exactly like the bad weather storms exercise in schools.
The world was supposed to end when it reached the year 2000. As you can see, we are all still here. No one knows when the world will end so the best thing to do is to live your life and look towards your future. We can’t do anything anyway if the world would end at this very minute.
You will be okay. Relax, it will be okay. I promise.

I have enjoyed your programs on Daystar so much. Watched the entire first presentation and am now watching it again. The first time you mentioned that the 4 horsemen represented the spirit of Communism, Catholicism, Capitalism and Islam took me by surprise. I had already gotten three of them but Capitalism? But then, I was listening to you the other night and I saw something—-maybe. Is it possible that the scripture that reveals that Capitalism will cause famine also reveals something else. The part that tells the angel not to hurt the oil or the wine. I know that you said that that refers to the stock market–commodities. But suddenly I wondered if this might be a prophecy that America–the wine, and Israel–the oil would not be damaged in the coming financial crisis. Anyway, just wanted you to know how much I appreciate your insight and teaching. For the first time in a lifetime of questioning, endtime prophecy is starting to make sense to me.
I believe all 4 Horsemen are described correctly,I can’t find any fault in Baxter’s interpretation,I’m trying but I can’t.The Black Horse sticks out like a sore thumb,day after Thanksgiving, they call it Black Friday start of Xmas shopping or when a company make’s a profit they call it in the Black.They don’t even know why the color Black was chosen,only that it’s an old accounting term they use.
I have heard thru the years several Bible theologians teach on Revelations & Irwin Baxter’s interpretations are the closet to the truth so far. After listening to him (very carefully) I have to say, he is the most accurate & on point one yet. I believe he prayerfully gets his answers. For those who say they “don’t believe” any of this – don’t worry-this is not for you. God is speaking to His children, aka: “Believers”.

Thanks Carolyn for your reply – To be sure I am not anti Irwin Baxter – No doubt that he has a keen insisght regarding end time prophecy. However, I can’t concede that “trumpet no. 5″ has anything to do with a war. Wars involve the killing of mankind. The locust of trumpet 5 have no authority to kill. Only to hurt men five months with a sting like unto a scorpion sting. If I am missing something in this scripture – perhaps someone can reveal to me that which I am missing.
Regarding the seven trumpets – ( 5th trumpet, 1st woe ) I don’t see how this 5th trumpet could be equated to the Gulf war of 1991, or any war for that matter – scripture plainly states that this is locust (of some type, reserved for the appointed time) and they are commanded not to kill but only have authority to hurt men five months with stinging, as the sting of a scorpion. (3rd trumpet ) Scripture ( Rev. 8:10,11) states that the waters were made bitter and many men died because of the bitter waters and not from nuclear radiation such as was the result of the Cherynobl incident. ( Trumpets 1 & 2 ) ( Rev. 8:7,8,9 ) The Holy One of Jacob, The Almighty God, The creator of all things, does not need planes and bombs to accomplish His Will. Check out Exodus 9:23,24. Here we find that God sent fire mingled with hail upon the land of Egypt – (see Ezekiel 38:22; Rev. 16:21 ).In short, I can’t see that any of the trumpet sounds could be equated to any modern day wars except possibly trumpet 6 (Rev. 9:14, 21 ) . The four angles are loosed from the river Euphrates and given a year, a month, a day, an hour to slay the third part of men. Again, this army of two hundred million does not have to be a modern military army. Whatever this army consist of it only has a short time to accomplish its task – to slay a third part of men. This could take place during the first half of the trubulation. It is not clear if this “third part of men” is a specific geographical area or if men are slain in all parts of the earth. I lean toward the thought that this is not a standing army of 200,000,000. Could be demonic spirits in likeness to the locust of the fifth trumpet. Would like to know the comments of others.
In regards to your comment/question of trumpet 6. If you wish to look at it in modern terms and speaking in a geographical context instead of a global context, you could very well overlay that passage with the current events in Syria. The Euphrates river runs through Syria and Iraq, and the Russian army as well as the Iranian military are both supportting the Syrian government in the civil war there, and the total amount of casualties and displaced citizens of the region grows exponentially everyday and could very well reach one third of that regions population in the time frame mentioned. But due to the location of this conflict and the parties involved therein I don’t believe that it refers to a “local” war if you will. I believe it refers to the begining of WWIII or the war to end ALL wars. Given the locale, context, and current events in that region of the world. I believe it is quite literal. It could very well be local, if you will, but these events could cause an infalation in other matters in the region such as Iran-Israel and will drag us (the U.S.) and China into the mix therefore making it global and a literal standing army of two hundred million quite plausible.

It is hard to comprehend an army of 200,000,000 engaged in battle with another army. One supposes that all of the official armies of today might add up to the 200 million, One can see that China could come close to raising an army of 200 million, if not the total 200 million. It seems the four angels of the Euphrates represent the four quarters of the earth, like as in Rev. 7:1, indicating that the slaying of one third of men would not be confined to a given local or regional area or even confined to a given hemisphere. Regarding the “one third of men”. does one interpet this as one third of the male gender or one third of mankind including women and children. It appears that the 200 million is not a part of the “one third slain”. Assuming the 200 million engaged another army of 200 million and they killed each other down to the last man, that is only 400 million. The population of the earth is what, seven billion plus/?. Assuming one third is 2.3 billion how many of these would be of the male gender. Probably less than half, indicating the interpertation of the “one third of men” would inclued women and children. One can see that if today’s “powers that be” were to engage in a nuclear war one third of mankind could be slain. In todays world it is doubtful that there are enough nuclear weapons to kill 2.3 billion people. In todays world are there enough conventional weapons to arm an army of 200 million? One can see that if the 200 million were divided into “killing squads” and dispersed through out the four quarters of the earth they could very well kill 2.3 billion innocent men, women and children. Rev. 9:18: “by these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which isssued out of their mouths”. The orgin of the fire, smoke and brimstone is still somewhat of a mystery. More revelation needed.

This all makes sense, and when explained as the way Irwin does becomes very clear. I have read and studied the last chapter of the bible for about 43 years, and I always felt the red horse was communism and the bear Russia. Revelation, Apocalypse is a revealing and the Good Lord gave us good men like Irwin to explain this to us. Open your heart and mind and you will see that we are in the last days. I am a sinner, but I welcome and hope that Jesus will return soon to rule and reign over us forever. There will be scoffers and unbelievers just as in the days of Noah. I do also believe what I heard a minister say today on TV God wants his bride, the church, those filled with the Holy Spirit to know these things and to be ready. Our redemption draweth nigh, His will be done on earth and heaven. Thank you ever so much Irwin, I am blessed to hear your word, Thank God for you. sorry for the spelling but i have been up very late and am on an airplane posting this.this all makes sense but it doesn’t, the scientific possiblities dont actually match up with theReligous, yes the religous Ending is correct, but it’s middle is throughly wrong, My job as a Scientist is i study the Earth’s Core and its reactions, i will not say long name since it is confusing, but basically our crust has been becoming unstable at certain places creating something anywhere from a mini (5ftx5ft) to a large (anywhere within 26 Sq miles) sinkhole, these have been found throughout antarctica. our worries are how long do we have? We have no Idea since this has just reccently happened, i will post as i learn of more, but i am only legally allowed to post vauge “images” of what is happening, Good Night, and good luck to all.

To Earnest you can start Take 15 minutes a day first week and slowly increase. ask God for wisdom and knowledge of what you are reading and before you know it you will be talking to god all day and can’t wait to hear his word or what he has to read. get ready for a new journey.

JESUS help us all understand what to do, how to act, and how to share are faith with all people to be born again. without you we have no chance, with you all thing are possible, PRAISE THE NAME OF JESUS.
