U.S. Sale of Military Assistance to Taiwan

The U.S. State Department has approved the potential sale of military technical assistance to Taiwan worth an estimated $108 million, the Pentagon said. United States law requires Washington to provide Taiwan with the means to defend itself, and President Joe Biden’s administration has vowed to step up engagement with the island. China has never renounced the use of force to bring Taiwan under its control, and the island has complained of increased military pressure from Beijing.
