Trump Suggests Iran Needs More Pain
President Donald Trump says he is nearing a decision on whether to launch an even larger military operation against Iran as diplomatic efforts struggle to produce an agreement.
“I am considering a massive attack. Bigger than ever before. I am close to making a decision. We are all set for it,” Trump said.
Trump also claimed that Israel would join the operation almost immediately if asked, although he maintained that the United States could carry out the attack without assistance. His remarks suggest that Washington has already positioned the necessary forces and is prepared for another major escalation.
At the same time, Trump said Iran wants to return to negotiations. However, he indicated that he does not believe Tehran is ready to accept American demands, saying Iranian leaders
“haven’t received enough pain yet.”
Regional sources also reportedly said Iran had not accepted the latest proposal and was not being helpful in the negotiations.
The president’s comments came as Congress remained sharply divided over whether the United States should continue military operations against Iran without additional congressional authorization.
The House of Representatives voted 214-208 to approve a war powers resolution calling on Trump to end unauthorized U.S. hostilities against Iran. All 210 Democrats who voted supported the resolution, joined by four Republicans. The measure was a nonbinding concurrent resolution, meaning it expressed the position of Congress but did not carry the force of law needed to compel the president to end the campaign.
The Senate considered a similar effort but rejected it by a vote of 47-49. Because the Senate resolution failed, Congress did not send a binding measure to the president restricting the continued use of military force. The contrasting votes revealed growing concern within Congress over the length, cost, authorization, and ultimate objectives of the Iran war, while also leaving Trump with the practical ability to continue directing military operations.
Prophetic Scope
The Bible identifies the region surrounding the Euphrates River as the center of a future war of unprecedented destruction.
Revelation 9:14-15 describes four angels being released from the Euphrates “for to slay the third part of men.” The prophecy goes on to describe an army of two hundred million and a conflict that results in one-third of mankind being killed.
It would be premature to declare the present conflict with Iran the fulfillment of the Sixth Trumpet War. However, the continued expansion of military operations throughout the Middle East demonstrates how rapidly a regional confrontation could grow into a multinational war.
Iran occupies ancient Persian territory near the Euphrates region and maintains military relationships with Russia, China, and armed groups throughout the Middle East. A massive new American attack could draw additional nations into the conflict, threaten vital shipping routes, disrupt the global economy, and create pressure for increasingly powerful international intervention.
Bible prophecy also teaches that the present era of conflict will eventually give way to an international agreement involving Israel and many nations. Daniel 9:27 states:
“And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week.”
The confirmation of this covenant will begin the final seven years leading to the return of Jesus Christ at the Battle of Armageddon. The Antichrist will be among the many participants involved in confirming that agreement.
Today’s war is not necessarily the prophesied Sixth Trumpet War. Nevertheless, the combination of escalating military pressure, negotiations with Iran, congressional division, multinational involvement, and growing demands for a diplomatic solution should be watched carefully, as it could lead to the war foretold approximately 2,000 years ago.
War often creates the urgency that eventually brings nations to the negotiating table, and Scripture reveals that a historic Middle East agreement will one day mark the beginning of the final seven years. Stay prayfully watchful.
