Donald Trump says ‘a whole civilization will die’ if Iran ignores demands

Donald Trump warned that “a whole civilization will die tonight” if Tehran fails to meet his demands, as a surge of airstrikes intensified and Israel cautioned Iranians that using the country’s railways could put their lives at risk.
One of the first reported strikes on Tuesday hit a rail bridge in the central Iranian city of Kashan, according to state media, with at least two people reported killed. Israel’s military said it had launched “a wide-scale wave of strikes targeting dozens of infrastructure sites.”
Iranian outlets also reported that a railway bridge near Karaj, northwest of Tehran, was struck. The city experienced power outages after a substation and transmission lines were hit. Additional strikes were reported near Qom and Tabriz.
Meanwhile, the United States reportedly targeted 50 military sites on Kharg Island, home to Iran’s main oil export terminal, as the pace of attacks escalated ahead of an 8 p.m. ET (1 a.m. BST) deadline set by Trump.
