Austria’s Vaccine Mandate

Austria will make coronavirus vaccination mandatory starting February 1. Chancellor Karl Nehammer claimed that “vaccination is the best guarantee for us to live together in freedom.” The mandate applies to Austrian residents aged 18 and older, with exemptions for pregnant women and people who cannot receive the vaccine on medical grounds. Unvaccinated people face a penalty from around $600 to $4,000 up to four times a year.
