What is the Great Tribulation?

The 7 Year Period of the Great Tribulation

The Bible teaches that the Great Tribulation lasts for three and one half years although popular teaching says it will be seven years. While it is true that Daniel’s 70th week lasts for seven years, the scripture teaches that only half of that period is what we know as the Great Tribulation. It says that the woman will be persecuted for a time, times, and half a time which equals three and one-half years. How do we know?

In Daniel 7:25 it describes the Great Tribulation as time, times and half a time: And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.

Revelation 13:5 approaches it from another angle. It says, And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.

Daniel 7:25 describes The Great Tribulation as lasting for time, times and half a time. In Revelation 13:5, it says power was given unto him to continue forty and two months, which is also exactly three and one half years. Then, Revelation 12:6 says, the woman fled into the wilderness where she hath a place prepared of God that they should feed her there a thousand, two hundred and three score days.

One thousand, two hundred and sixty days also equal forty-two months or three and half years. Each description in scripture of the duration of the Great Tribulation states that it is three and half years. It is stated in several different ways. The war in heaven and the Abomination of Desolation will occur three and one half years before the Armageddon.

Revelation 12:7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,

8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.

9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.

13 And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.

14 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.

Notice that the serpents time was short and he was filled with wrath, the devils wrath last for the same time as the great tribulation. V.14 says time, times and a half of time.

The exact time Daniel says he makes war against the saints. Daniel 7:25 And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.

Revelation 13 confirms that this will be a 3 1/2 year period. Revelation 13:5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.

6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.

7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.

And this war is a future war. The war that will happen is a future war.

    Jeremiah 14:14
Then Yahweh, said unto me, “The prophets prophesy in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commaned them, neither spake unto them: they prophecy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.”
