U.S. likely losing Iraq to ISIS

“Well, you know, these are fights where if you’re not winning, you’re probably losing because time is not on your side,” he said, Politico reported. “It’s arguable now in Iraq.”

 

Petraeus then went on to assure “we’ll turn it around,” the news outlet reported.

 

“We will win again in Iraq,” he said. “I do think that Iraq can definitely be handled. I think that it can be kept intact.”

 

But he added a caveat: “We’ve got to do a lot more in Syria,” he said, Politico reported.

 

Petraeus strategized the 2007 Iraq troop surge that led to significant declines in violence in the country.

 

A recent CNN/ORC poll, meanwhile, indicates 61 percent of Americans see the fight against ISIS as going badly.
