President Trump on Monday continued to rail about having to remove his Doral golf resort as host of the G-7 gathering of world leaders, saying he “would have done it for free.”
“I own a property in Florida. I would have given it for nothing,” the president said during a meeting of his cabinet in the White House. But “the Democrats went crazy, even though I would have done it for free.”
He said that if his South Florida golf resort hosted next June’s summit, “Everyone in the G-7 would have had their own building.”
“It would have been the best G-7 ever,” he said.
Acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney announced last Thursday that the administration had selected Doral as the site of the G-7, prompting criticism that Trump would profit personally from the presidency.
