Top Jewish Democrat to oppose Iran nuclear deal

Top Jewish American leader: some European leaders are against Iran deal

US Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer of New York and the most influential Jewish voice in Congress, said Thursday night he had decided to oppose the nuclear deal with Iran negotiated by the Obama administration.

“To me, the very real risk that Iran will not moderate and will, instead, use the agreement to pursue its nefarious goals is too great,” Schumer said in a statement.

US Representative Eliot Engel, the top Democrat on the US House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee, on Thursday also said he has decided to vote to reject the nuclear deal with Iran.

In a statement obtained by Reuters, Engel said he had raised questions about his concerns about the deal during the negotiations and since the deal was announced on July 1.
