Syria CRISIS: SAS to join US special forces raids on IS Raqqa

It follows an announcement by US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter that the American-led coalition would “no longer hold back from supporting capable partners against Islamic State or conducting missions on the ground”.

 

For the past 12 months UK Special Forces have been operating in a joint special operations unit codenamed Operation Shader.

 

More than 300 personnel are involved.

 

It is not part of an official UK mission, instead operating under US command.
