Putin: US-Russia relations have gotten worse

US-Russia relations have worsened since the beginning of Donald Trump’s presidency, according to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In a transcript posted Wednesday by the Kremlin, Putin said: “You can say that the level of trust on a working level, especially on the military side, has not improved but most likely worsened.”

His comments come as US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson meets with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov following the US air strike on Russian-backed forces of the Assad regime. During their first meeting on Wednesday, Lavrov had accused the US of carrying out an “unlawful attack” last week.

“We have seen very alarming actions recently with an unlawful attack against Syria,” Lavrov said. “We consider it of utmost importance to prevent the risks of replay of similar action in the future.”
