Palestinians to seek end of ‘occupation’ later this month at UN, PA official says

The Palestinian leadership is planning to submit a draft resolution later this month to the UN Security Council that will seek an end date to the “Israeli occupation,” a senior official said on Tuesday, according to an AFP report.

 

According the AFP report, though the US is expected to veto the resolution, Wassel Abu Yusef, a senior PLO official, said the Palestinians would not halt the process.

 

“No other solution has been proposed by the United States,” Yusef told AFP, adding that “The US administration is pushing to resume bilateral negotiations, even while it’s clear that these have failed throughout the last few years.”

 

Last month, expressing deep frustration and a degree of resignation that years of efforts to forge a two-state solution with the Israelis have made next to no progress, Saeb Erekat, the Palestinians chief peace negotiator said there was no option other than to make a unilateral push for statehood.
