North Korea: Missile defense shield will be nuked

On Wednesday, North Korea warned that if the US deploys a missile defense shield over South Korea, it will become the number one target for nuclear attacks.

The missile shield, known as the US Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile shield, is scheduled for deployment in Seongiu, and is supposed to be armed with nuclear weapons.

According to a Korean Central news Agency report, “If THAAD is deployed in South Korea, it will be exposed to nuclear strikes.”

With the deployment of this missile shield set for next year, and with Thursday’s deployment by the US of a similar missile shield in Romania, Pyongyang claimed that the US plans to delploy THAAD are part of an ongoing effort to dominate the world.

North Korea has conducted four nuclear tests since January, and claims to be able to mount nuclear warheads on ballistic missiles.

President Barack Obama has said that North Korea’s nuclear activities “endanger all of us” and that North Korea will “face consequences.”
