Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Thursday issued a stern warning to Gaza terrorist groups after yet another rocket attack on southern Israel.
He spoke as he received an honorary citizenship from the southern Israeli city of Netivot, which is one of many localities in the south to have come under fire from rockets in recent years.
On Wednesday, a rocket fired by Gaza terrorists exploded in an open area of the Eshkol Regional Council. There were no physical injuries or damages.
Israel later retaliated by attacking terrorist infrastructures belonging to Hamas in northern Gaza. The incident was just the latest “trickling” of rocket fire from Gaza since the end of the counterterrorism Operation Protective Edge in 2014.
“The towns in the western Negev were under attack for a long time, sirens sounded, [people ran] to protected spaces, those became part of the daily routine here, and we have achieved quiet over the last two years. This quiet, which is unprecedented, is a direct result of the operation, and it has not been so quiet here for many years,” Netanyahu said Thursday.
“We dealt a strong blow to the terrorists and I want to believe that they have internalized the extent of our determination and our strength. While in our region, the Middle East, you never know what the future holds, the other side knows better than ever that we will not stand idle [if attacked],” he continued.
“We lead a very consistent policy. We are not prepared to accept a ‘trickle’ [of rocket fire], not in the south, not in the north, and not anywhere. And if anyone thinks about trickling – they will get a shower in return. Our response to the firing at our territory in recent weeks, I it speaks for itself,” said the Prime Minister.
During his speech, Netanyahu also wished a speedy recovery to former President Shimon Peres, who is hospitalized after suffering a stroke.
