Kentucky governor works to comply with REAL ID act

Kentuckians could be in store for some real headaches with their driver’s licenses.
By Jan. 30, Kentucky driver’s licenses and state-issued IDs won’t be accepted at military bases because they don’t meet minimum security standards set by the 2005 federal REAL ID Act.

Gov. Matt Bevin said complying with the federal REAL ID Act is a priority.

“For many of us, it frankly won’t affect our world, but for some, it affects their worlds very, very much,” Bevin said.

Bevin said he’s working with state lawmakers and President-elect Donald Trump’s administration to figure out a solution.

The governor hopes to get an extension approved so the Bluegrass State will have some extra time to get up to speed.

The Department of Homeland Security denied an extension last October.
