Israeli jets strike Gaza terror targets in retaliation for overnight rocket fire

The Israel Air Force attacked targets in the Gaza Strip in the early hours of Thursday morning, in response to a rocket that was fired into Israel a few hours prior.

Hamas confirmed the strikes, saying that Israeli jets had attacked an Al-Qassam Brigades training camp in Al Bureij in the center of the Gaza Strip, as well as a communications center. No injuries were reported.

The rocket landed in an open area close to the coastal town of Ashkelon, with no damage or injuries reported.

The IDF spokesperson’s office released a statement saying Hamas was responsible for the rocket attack, and that attempts to harm Israeli citizens would not be tolerated.

IDF Spokesman, Lt. Col. Peter Lerner said, “The time was 2 AM in Israel when sirens sounded in the Lachish region, a frightening wake up call, alerting civilians to rush to shelters. The repeated rocket fire at Israel does not only put the lives of hundreds of thousands of civilians at risk but it is a deliberate decision to target civilians. No person should live under the threat of terrorism, always fearing what will come next, and whether they will find shelter in time to save their lives.”
