Accord signed by Education Minister Naftali Bennett states Israel’s commitment to fighting discrimination, violence against LGBT community, including bullying in schools • Teachers to be trained to address bullying over sexual orientation, gender identity

 

Israel was the only Middle Eastern country to sign on to a UNESCO initiative designed to promote education against homophobia in schools, the Foreign Ministry revealed over the weekend.

 

Education ministers from various countries have pledged to support the anti-bullying initiative. The accord signed by Education Minister Naftali Bennett states that Israel is committed to fighting discrimination and violence against the LGBT community, including bullying in schools.

 

Special attention will be afforded to training teachers to fight bullying and discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.

 

Israeli Ambassador to UNESCO Carmel Shama Hacohen said that “Israel is among the leaders of the pro-LGBT coalition and supports the idea and the community at every opportunity, especially when it comes to the struggle against violence and abuse within the education system.”
