IAEA: Iran may have built an extension at disputed military site

The UN’s nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency, has released a report stating that Iran may have built an extension at Parchin, a disputed military site.

Under the July 14 agreement aimed at ending a 13-year standoff, Iran will dramatically reduce in scale its nuclear activities in order to make any dash to produce atomic weapons all but impossible.

It will be up to the IAEA, which already has up to 10 inspectors in Iran every day, to verify that Iran sticks to its commitments and does not divert material to any covert nuclear weapons drive.

The report, which was obtained by Reuters said that “since (our) previous report (in May), at a particular location at the Parchin site, the agency has continued to observe, through satellite imagery, the presence of vehicles, equipment, and probable construction materials. In addition, a small extension to an existing building appears to have constructed.”

According to Reuters, diplomats do not believe that the agency will be unable to verify intelligence that may show that Iran carried out test detonations of nuclear bombs.
