Huckabee reiterates Israel’s connection to West Bank

“I wish that every candidate, Republican or Democrat would come to Israel to show solidarity with the country that most reflects the mirror imagine of the American spirit, to show solidarity with the Israeli people and to show their extreme disgust with any deal with Iran,” the former Arkansas governor said. His remarks were quoted by The Jerusalem Post.

He made his statement in the West Bank settlement of Shiloh. “If you are going to visit Israel, you should visit all of Israel and that would include Judea and Samaria,” Huckabee told reporters. “Jews have a stronger connection to Shiloh than Americans do to Manhattan.”

“I have recognized Judea and Samaria as part of Israel,” which he holds is vital for the security of the Jewish state, he added.

His view is opposed to that of all US administrations and the international community, which believes most of the West Bank, which Israel captured from Jordan in 1967, should be part of a future Palestinian state to be negotiated by the parties.

Huackabee spoke with reporters prior to a fundraising dinner for his presidential run, hosted in Shiloh by Miami-based businessman Simon Falic, owner of Duty Free Americas, Inc., the largest duty-free operator in the US News of the fundraiser was first reported in Tuesday’s Jerusalem Post.

The dinner was held at Shiloh’s archaeological site where Biblical scholars believe the tabernacle stood.
