Falwell gets backing in call for armed students

Jerry Falwell Jr. not only has suggested Liberty University students be armed, he has also refused to back down in the face of a torrent of criticism that has been launched against him.

He’s even getting some support from others who have studied the Bible.

“I believe that the true Christian community of America, along with most of their leaders, would wholeheartedly agree with Falwell’s appeal for personal safety,” Pastor and author Carl Gallups told WND.

“I also would say most of the parents of the young people attending Liberty University agree as well. There can be no denying that Christians are being increasingly and directly targeted in America – whether it is in our homes, churches, businesses, or college campus classrooms. We are American citizens too, and we have a right and responsibility to lawfully defend ourselves. I applaud Mr. Falwell and wholeheartedly support his plea.”

Falwell created a storm when he encouraged Liberty University students to obtain concealed carry permits to defend against terrorism.

Gallups, a former law enforcement professional and pastor of Hickory Hammock Baptist Church, is the author of “Be Thou Prepared: Equipping the Church for Persecution and Times of Trouble.”
