Doctor fired for refusing to call bearded man ‘madame’
A Christian doctor has been fired from his government position for saying he would decline a transgender person’s demand to use preferred pronouns.
Dr. David Mackereth of the United Kingdom lost his contract with the Department of Work and Pensions as a disability benefits assessor after a manager posed a hypothetical conversation to him.
“If you have a man six foot tall with a beard who says he wants to be addressed as ‘she’ and ‘Mrs’, would you do that?” the manager asked.
Mackereth, 56 and a father of four, said he would decline the request, resulting in his firing.
He now works in an emergency room in Shropshire and is suing the government for discrimination on the grounds his religious beliefs were violated.
