Fighting Battles in South Sudan

Yesterday battles were occurring in South Sudan between the Army and rebel forces. These fights were happening while representatives from each of these sides were getting ready to talk about peace and try to end these wars.

Because representatives have been sent to Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital, the opposing sides are starting to feel the force of the African and Western authorities to come to an agreement that will stop this fighting which has caused over a thousand fatalities. Unfortunately, there is no indicator that these aggressions have ended at this time.

Philip Aguer, a spokesman for the military, was reported to say, “that military forces fought with rebels south of the flashpoint town of Bor, the scene of some of the heaviest fighting in the nearly three weeks of violence.” He also said that, “the Sudan People’s Liberation Army was trying to stop the rebels from advancing on the capital, Juba, about 200 kilometers (124 miles) away.”

These discussions as of yesterday evening have not begun yet. It was reported that not all of the parties were in Addis Ababa on Thursday, but that they were supposed to be there on Friday, then the talks could begin.

Texas Mayor Announces 2014 as the ‘Year of the Bible’

The mayor in Flower Mound, Texas, Tom Hayden, has struck some interests after he announced that 2014 would be the “year of the Bible”. He stated that he has been contemplating about doing this for two years. He would like the community to be associated by using the Bible. He went through with this decision for the year of 2014.

Hayden stated, “There’s so much benevolence on helping your fellow person,” “And the morality that helped build our country is based on the values that are found in the Bible. And as we look at problems, maybe we’re getting away from those values. And in my little small way, I want to encourage people to get back into those values.”

This mayor wants to inspire all of the residents of this town to collectively read the whole Bible through this year and in doing this he wants to get people back to the values he talked about.

The Court Ruling is in the Priests for Life’s Favor

A pro-life organization, called Priests for Life, won a massive victory in a federal appeals court. The pro-life organization had not complied with the HHS mandate which causes religious groups and companies to finance birth control or drugs that cause abortion for their employees. The court ruled that this organization does not have to pay fines for this infraction. This court ruling also continues the allowance for this organization to provide its’ workers with health insurance.

The organization found out, on December 19, that a judge for the District of Columbia had sided with the government, and immediately the Priests for Life had filed for the appeal that was approved on New Year’s Eve.

The National Director of Priests for Life, Frank Pavone, said that “he is grateful his organization is free, temporarily at least, from having to comply with the unjust mandate or face steep fines by failing to comply when the ministry’s new insurance policy goes into effect on Wednesday.”

He also stated, “We would not have complied with this mandate in any case, as it promotes the very culture of death that Priests for Life works to combat,”

He termed this mandate as a “blatant act of tyranny”.  He finally ended by stating that “There have already been significant victories in the courts against the HHS mandate, and we have no doubt that Priests for Life ultimately will prevail in this historic fight.”
