AMERICA’S CHOICE: The Bible? or The Gay Agenda? We can’t have it both ways

Does the Bible teach against homosexuality, and thus same-sex marriage, or not? If it does, then the approval of same-sex marriage, that has recently been endorsed by President Obama, would constitute a direct and arrogant attack against the Bible, and thus against God Himself.

America Choose the Bible or the Gay Agenda

By Irvin Baxter

What Does the Bible say?

Old Testament

In the Old Testament, Leviticus 20:13 speaks very clearly on the subject:

If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

In Genesis chapters 18 and 19, the people of Sodom were so wicked that God could no longer tolerate them. He destroyed the city of Sodom by raining fire and brimstone down upon it. The prominent sin that earmarked the city of Sodom was homosexuality. As a result, the sin of homosexuality became known as sodomy, which is still true to this very day.

In the Old Testament, the penalty for adultery, homosexuality, bestiality and many other offenses was death. Fortunately, in the New Testament, forgiveness and salvation is freely offered to all who will repent and turn away from wicked lifestyles that violate the commandments of God.

New Testament

The issue of homosexuality is addressed extensively in Romans 1:21-32. Notice in particular verses 26-28:

For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient.

The passage says that God gave the ungodly up to “vile affections”. Then the scripture describes what God referred to as vile affections. He said that men “burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly…”

Verse 28 states that people don’t like to retain God in their knowledge because they don’t want to be corrected by Him. The passage says that, as a result of this attitude, God turned the homosexual and those that justify homosexuality over to a reprobate mind.

A reprobate mind is one that embraces a lie so strongly until it actually comes to believe that the lie is the truth. An example of this is a person believing two men can be a family. Everybody knows two men can’t have children. It’s impossible! Yet, because people want to justify vile affections and give same-sex relationships a cloak of legitimacy, they close their eyes to truth and say that two men or two women should be married so they can be a family. People who embrace homosexuality, according to the Bible, have been turned over to a reprobate mind.

Another passage in the New Testament very clearly teaches that those practicing homosexuality cannot be a part of the Kingdom of God. It’s found in 1 Corinthians 6:9-11,

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

Notice that the passage warns us to “not be deceived”. When we change what God clearly has said in order to justify behavior that God hates, we become deceived and God turns us over to a reprobate mind.

As we can see from the above scriptures, the Bible, in both the Old and New Testaments, condemns homosexual activity in the strongest of terms. When we directly contradict God’s Word, we are denouncing the teachings of the Bible and exalting our opinions above what God Himself has said. We are saying that the Bible is wrong and that we are right!

Will we embrace the Bible or will we embrace the gay agenda? America, we can’t have it both ways!

A Glaring Example of Deception

When President Obama publicly endorsed gay marriage during an interview with ABC on May 9, 2012, he attributed his embrace of homosexuality to his understanding of Christianity. Following are his words:

“We are both practicing Christians,” he said, referring to himself and his wife. “When we think about our faith, the thing at root that we think about is, not only Christ sacrificing himself on our behalf, but it’s also the Golden Rule, you know, treat others the way you would want to be treated.”

It is the ultimate deception when we endorse what God has called an abomination and attribute that endorsement to Christianity!

Does Christianity teach us to love everyone? Certainly. But is it love to endorse behavior that God has repeatedly called an abomination? Obviously not!

If I know your behavior is leading you to certain destruction, is it love for me not to warn you? If I know you are drunk, is it love for me to allow you to get behind the wheel of your car and drive?

When the Bible clearly states that fornicators, adulterers, thieves and homosexuals cannot enter the Kingdom of God, is it love for me to not only fail to warn them, but also to actually endorse their behavior?

America! Please do not be deceived! We stand at a crossroads. We will either take a stand against same-sex marriage, or we will throw the Bible into the dumpster! We can’t have it both ways!

America Hasn’t Gone Over the Cliff Yet

In 1996, the US Congress overwhelmingly passed the Defense of Marriage Act. The vote in the House was 342-67, and in the Senate it was 85-14. On September 21, 1996, President Clinton signed it into law. DOMA stated that marriage was only between one man and one woman.

Now, President Obama has said that DOMA should be repealed. If Congress and the president do enact legislation repealing DOMA, it will be a clear denunciation of the Holy Scriptures upon which our nation was originally founded. Furthermore, the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) would declare boldly that the Bible’s teachings on homosexuality are nothing but bigoted homophobia.

If DOMA is repealed by Congress, I fear this will be the final step in our rebellion against God. I fear this will bring God’s judgment upon our country, even as it brought destruction down on Sodom and Gomorrah.

Do Americans Favor Same-Sex Marriage?

CNN and other pro-homosexual media continually bombard us with the propaganda that the majority of Americans now favor same-sex marriage. They cite the latest poll they have taken to support their assertions. But is it true? We’ve learned by now that polls can be manipulated to say whatever we want them to say.

The fact is that thirty-one states have voted on constitutional amendments stating that marriage must only be between one man and one woman. Thirty-one out of thirty-one have approved these amendments! Every single state so far, where the people have been allowed to vote, has voted against same-sex marriage! It doesn’t sound like the majority favor same-sex marriage, does it? Those who say otherwise are obviously peddling pro-gay propaganda!

Same-sex marriage has now been made legal in six states. In each case, this has been done either by liberal, pro-gay judges or passed by a state congress with a liberal majority. Not once has same-sex marriage been approved when the American people have had the chance to vote!

The Defining Issue of the 2012 Presidential Election

The recent endorsement of same-sex marriage by President Obama has pushed this question to the forefront of our national debate.

On the same day the president announced his support for same-sex marriage, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney reaffirmed his view that marriage is between a man and a woman, offering a sharp contrast to President Obama’s stance. Romney stated his position this way: “I believe marriage has been defined the same way for literally thousands of years by virtually every civilization in history and that marriage is literally by its definition a relationship between a man and a woman.”

When asked about adoption of children by gay couples, Romney acknowledged that the practice is legal in most states. However, he added, “We have to have a president who’s willing to say that the best opportunity an individual can give to their unborn child is an opportunity to be born in a home with a mother and a father.”

Whether we are Democrats, Republicans or Independents, the open endorsement of same-sex marriage by President Obama has forced a clear choice upon each of us. Will we vote for homosexuality or against it? Will we vote for the Bible or against it? Will we vote for God or against Him?

This is America’s choice: the gay agenda or the Bible? We can’t have it both ways!
