Hamas accuses Israel of trying to meddle in West Bank elections

The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) said Wednesday that they arrested Hussein Abu Kweik, a representative from Hamass election committee, in Ramallah overnight. He was arrested for alleged activities that could pose a threat to security in the area.A spokesman for Hamas in Gaza condemned the arrest and alleged that Israel was trying to meddle in the Palestinians slated upcoming West Bank election.Be the first to know – Join our Facebook page.Also, in a recent interview with Al Jazeera, Hamas official Mahmoud al-Zahar said his organization was looking into the option of boycotting the elections due to the continued arrests of Hamas members in the West Bank by their rival, the Palestinian Authority.The Palestinian political arena has not witnessed national elections in which both Hamas and Fatah participated since the 2006 parliamentary elections. However, the PA government, led by Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah, announced in late June that municipal elections would take place on October 8.
