When is the Sabbath day?

Should we only worship on the Sabbath day?

By Irvin Baxter

QUESTION: Scott from North Carolina wants to know, With so many different standpoints given by different churches, what day should we actually say is the Sabbath?

ANSWER: If you talk about what day the Sabbath was in the Old Testament; it was definitely Saturday, the seventh day of the week. But there were some times when they had more than one Sabbath, when there were holy days such as Passovers, Pentecost, the Feast of Tabernacles… they would have two or three Sabbaths in one week, but the normal Sabbath happened on Saturday. So the big question is, is it now mandated that we keep the Sabbath just as they did in the Old Testament, and is that the day that we should worship? Well we know that in the Bible, the church worshipped on Sunday, the Bible says, ‘when you come together on the first day of the week’. Why did they worship on Sunday when it was the Jewish custom to worship on Saturday? The Bible says that it was the habit of the Apostle Paul to go to the Synagogue every Sabbath day and to dispute with the people concerning the Messiah, that he would suffer and then he would preach to them that Jesus came, suffered, and that He was the Messiah. So apparently they used Saturday to go to the synagogue to evangelize, and then they would bring their converts to the Christian church on Sunday. The truth of the matter is, it doesn’t matter what day you worship, because the New Testament Church was daily in the Temple.
