5 Bible Verses About Peace on Earth

Peace on Earth will ultimately be achieved when Jesus Christ returns to establish the Kingdom of God. Five verses that describe peace in the Bible serve to remind us of this, so that we may look to find true peace through faith in God.

Peace in the Bible is a mainstay of both Jesus’s messages to His disciples through the Gospels, and across other passages in the Bible through end time prophecies. When encountering what true peace means through God’s love compared to earthly conceptions of peace, it’s important to use calculated judgment. Worldly experiences can be masked as peace and salvation, but the truth of God’s peace is eternal.

Essential spiritual principles of the Christian faith are given to us through God’s scripture, and knowing these truths helps us understand God’s will for us to stay close to Him in anticipation of events to come. These five verses regarding peace in the Bible help us to understand how to live under Jesus Christ’s example and follow the Word of God to find peace.

Isaiah 9:6

For unto us a Child is born,

Unto us a Son is given;

And the government will be upon His shoulder.

And His name will be called

Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,

Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Jesus’ birth marked the first true hope that we could find and receive true peace with the possibility of eternal salvation. He was promised as our everlasting leader, our “Prince of Peace” set to establish His holy government upon the earth.

Luke 2:14

“Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”

Upon Jesus’ arrival, angels proclaimed this sentiment that recognized His magnitude. He will show us the way to peace by demonstrating how to live with others under God’s Commandments. If we follow Him, He will not lead us astray.

John 18:36

Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here.”

In this verse, Jesus instructs his followers to keep their hearts focused on the peace of everlasting life. By allowing the Jews to take Him to be crucified, Jesus is affirming that our earthly sphere is not the eternal one and that through God we should not fear.

James 4:2-3

You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.

We should rest in this peace: The world does not deliver lasting serenity through worldly materials, people, or riches. We “fight and war” to defend our worldly pleasures and interests, but seeking peace solely through these selfish and destructive means will lead to despair and damnation. Jesus in His everlasting wisdom doesn’t deny we should enjoy our time on Earth, but that using worldly means under serves our ability to find true peace.

Matthew 24:6-7

And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places.

According to prophecies in the Bible, the events leading up to the end time will be full of war, destruction, and corruption. Peace in the Middle East is a sign of the end time, which will trigger the unfolding of the Great Tribulation and the Battle of Armageddon. This scripture discerns when and how we will see where true peace exists. With the Second Coming of Christ as His promise to us, we will finally find ultimate peace when the Kingdom of God is restored on Earth.
